[Water pump leakage phenomenon] When the engine is running or stopped, the drain hole of the water pump housing keeps leaking.

[Causes of water pump leakage] Leakage of automobile engine water pumps is mostly caused by damage to water pump bearings, wear of pump shafts, and failure of water seals.

[Diagnosis and troubleshooting of water pump leakage] When water leaks, disassemble the water pump and repair the water seal. Remove the water pump cover, loosen the fastening bolts at the end, and take out the impeller and water seal assembly. If the surface of the static ring and the moving ring is damaged and leaks, use sandpaper to grind it on the cast iron plate to make it closed. If the gasket and corrugated ring are damaged, replace them with new ones. The drainage hole of the water pump casing must not be blocked, so that the water droplets leaking from the water seal can be drained here, and it can also prevent the water accumulated in the water pump cavity from soaking the bearing and destroying the lubrication of the bearing.

If it is found that the drain hole of the water pump is leaking, it means that the sealing ring in the pump is damaged; if the bearing of the water pump has abnormal noise or abnormal rotation, it means that the bearing of the water pump is damaged, and the water pump needs to be disassembled and repaired.

When disassembling the water pump, first drain the coolant in the water pump, remove the V-belt, press out the pulley of the water pump with a special tool, and then disassemble the water pump.

When disassembling the water pump, first remove the water pump bearing with a special tool, and then remove the water pump impeller and seal assembly from the water pump bearing.

When assembling, first use a special tool to press the bearing onto the pump wheel, then press the pump wheel and seal assembly into the designated position, and then press the water pump bearing onto the pump pulley seat. During operation, press the end surface of the bearing until it is flush with the pump casing, so that the plane of the pump impeller is 0.1~0.3mm lower than the plane of the pump casing. The shaft of the assembled pump should be able to rotate flexibly, and the pump bearings should have no obvious radial clearance. When installing the water pump, pay attention to replace the new gasket, then install the new pulley and V-belt, and finally add coolant.

Key points and methods of water pump maintenance: common damage to water pumps includes shell cracking, pump shaft bending or wear, bearing looseness, water seal failure, impeller blade damage or corrosion, belt and pump shaft loosening, keyway wear, etc. These phenomena will affect the normal operation of the water pump and should be repaired during vehicle maintenance.
